Description
Reconstitute at 0.2 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
Neurophysin II is a carrier protein encoded by the AVP gene located on chromosome 20 in humans. It plays a crucial role in the transport and storage of the hormone vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Vasopressin is essential for regulating water balance in the body by promoting water reabsorption in the kidneys. Neurophysin II binds to vasopressin in the neurosecretory vesicles of the hypothalamus and facilitates its transport to the posterior pituitary gland, where vasopressin is stored and later released into the bloodstream. Mutations in the AVP gene can result in conditions such as familial neurohypophyseal diabetes insipidus, characterized by an inability to concentrate urine and maintain proper water balance. Neurophysin II, therefore, is integral to maintaining homeostasis through its role in the vasopressin pathway.
