The original Acros Organics product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
General description
- Glycine is an essential acid that can be used for the synthesis of creatine, purines, and porphyrins
- Soluble in water; has a pH of ∼=5.5-6.5 in solution
- Glycine is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that regulates the activity of NMDA receptors and affects neural activity
Applications
- Glycine may also be used to maintain osmotic pressure, or as a component of other molecular biology buffers that are ion-dependent
- Glycine is used in molecular biology as a buffer component for gel electrophoresis; the ability of glycine to adopt a negative charge at higher pH makes it ideal for separating proteins in the stacking layer
- Intended for biochemistry applications
