Description

Improve isolation of Campylobacter species from fecal specimens with selective prepared media which enhances inhibition of background flora.

Improve isolation of Campylobacter species from fecal specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Campylobacter Selective Agar (Butzler), recommended for the isolation of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from clinical specimens. Supplements in the media enhance inhibition of background flora improving recovery of Campylobacter spp. which grow as flat gray colonies.

Campylobacter Selective Agar (Butzler) is supplemented with a range of antimicrobials to inhibit background flora including bacitracin, amphotericin, and novobiocin.

  • Laked sheep blood supplies X factor (hemin) and other necessary growth factors
  • Cefoperazone, trimethoprim, vancomycin, and polymyxin B in the medium inhibit Enterobacteriaceae, staphylococci and yeast
  • Cefoperazone enhances suppression of Pseudomonas spp., thereby improving recovery of Campylobacter spp. from fecal specimens
  • Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media
